RPMI 1640 culture medium

RPMI culture medium, also known as RPMI 1640, stands for Roswell Park Memorial Institute Medium, which was first introduced by a person named Moore in 1967 with the successful cultivation and expansion of human lymphoid cells. RPMI 1640 culture medium contains 19 essential and non-essential amino acids including glycine, 11 vitamins, 6 types of salt and sodium bicarbonate. The culture medium is suitable for the growth of peripheral blood lymphocytes and monocytes. It has a high amount of glutathione, vitamins biotin, B12 and aminobenzoic acid PABA, which are not present in DMEM and MEM culture media. The culture medium is highly enriched for proliferation and high density of cells. Assagen Biotechnology Company offers RPMI-1640 in formats with glutamax (GlutaMAX TM), with L-glutamine, with phenol red reagent and without phenol red in HEPES buffer.
