In molecular biology, TBE buffer is commonly used for agarose or polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis to separate nucleic acids (i.e., DNA and RNA). This buffer is used not only in nucleic acid electrophoresis of agarose and polyacrylamide gels, but also in the preparation of agarose and polyacrylamide gels. TBE buffer is also used for analyzing DNA fragments in PCR, DNA isolation protocols or DNA cloning experiments.
It is also useful for isolating smaller DNA fragments (less than 1500 bp) such as small products of restriction enzyme digestion. The TBE buffer has a larger buffer capacity and will have a higher resolution than the TAE buffer.
